Founded in 1999, following the liberalization of the Nigerian telecommunications market Suburban is now the largest supplier of IP Backbone services into Nigeria. The company has expanded by diversifying into multiple business units focused on different segments of the telecommunications value chain.
Suburban has distinguished itself as an ‘alternative’ telecommunications carrier and achieved a significant level of success by monitoring the technology migration trends in most developed markets to deploy the right infrastructure and the right services at the right time through the evolution of telecommunications in West Africa.
With infrastructure being the original bottleneck, Suburban was able to successfully build one of the largest satellite based transport networks in Africa between 2002 and 2005.
We also implemented a technology refresh on our infrastructure by migrating to fibre in 2006. Since the migration, Suburban has built and acquired access to over 5000 km of domestic fibre coverage in Nigeria and West Africa. Suburban owns the only inland fibre optic network that connects Nigeria and Ghana, two of the region’s largest markets.
In addition to its fibre assets, Suburban has also made significant investments in IP, MPLS and Wimax. Through its multiple business units, Suburban utilizes these assets to meet the voice, data and video connectivity needs of West Africa’s largest bandwidth users as well as enterprise customers. |
